THE TOP 5 VIDEO GAMES OF 2004

Here they are. They biggest time wasters in the country, nay, EVER! For the year 2004.

5) SPIDER-MAN 2 X-BOX, PS2, GAMECUBE

This is seriously the best Spider-Man game ever created. The free travel throughout a scaled down version of New York City is truly awe inspiring. Climbing to the top of the Empire State Building and taking a leap of faith off is something that many of us have waited for in a Spider-Man game. And the webswinging combos you can pull out of the hat are just. . .Ahhh! I can't even form words to describe their awsomeness. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and even Bruce Campbell get in on the fun and make this easily, one of the best games of the year.

4) THE BATTLE FOR MIDDLE-EARTH PC

This is my first foree into the games of Real Time Strategy. Commanding massive amounts of warriors and having to equip and provide for them is pretty daunting. But at the same time, it's great to have a whole host of Uruk-Hai warriors storm into the Rohan city of Edoras and wipe them out systematically. Summong creatures like the mighty Balrog and the deadly Shelob, and fighting alongside Aragorn and Boromir, there literally isn't anything left out of this game.

3) METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE-EATER PS2

I love Hideo Kojima. His Metal Gear series never fail. I can understand people's dislike of Metal Gear 2, but come on people, it still rocked harder than anything at that point. This time, Hideo takes us forward in the story by taking us back in time. To the 1960's when the cold war was at it's hottest. Without any modern conveniences like radar, you truly have to rely on your senses and your wits to see you through the game.

2) FABLE X-BOX

This is the closest I've ever seen one game come close to another for becoming #1. Fable was a damn close #1. This action based sword swinging adventure has you follow either the path of good or bad depending on how you play the game and all the decisions you make throughout. Not only that, you can customize your armour, your weapons, your fighting style and your hair and tattoos. It's an open ended adventure that has you either doing the missions and progressing the story, or taking time out to help your fellow man, make money, or futher your evil empire. While considered open ended, it's stil very limited with the freedom it gives you. It's length is also surprisingly short. Had it been a little longer, with a wider variety of weapons and missions this could have easily been #1.

#1!!! GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREIS
PS2

Grand Theft Auto remains the game to contend with. You can either play the game, or venture down whatever road you choose in the huge, huge, huge model of California and Nevada. I've been playing for 3 months now, and I'm only 45% done with the whole game. There is literally NOTHING you can't do in this game. From the voice over acting, to the adventure, to the weapons variety, to the modes of transportation, gambling, and what not, you could spend your whole life in this game. It's an adventure not to be missed. You NEED to run outside and buy this game right now.
