THE SIMPSONS: SEASON 6

To say that I am excited about this DVD is like simply saying The Devil’s Rejects was a bad movie. This may well be my favorite season of my favorite TV show of all time (although seasons 7 and 8 are right up there as well). I know that there are shows on TV right now that are more relevant and pack more of a punch than the current Simpsons, (Family Guy and South Park come to mind) but in its hey-day, in the golden age of the show (seasons 3-8) this show could not be touched. It was the funniest, most relevant, most daring show on TV and I loved every minute of it.

On this DVD there are 25 classic Simpsons episodes:

Bart of Darkness: A truly brilliant parody of Hitchcock’s Rear Window.

Lisa’s Rival: Lisa finally gets her comeuppance when a younger, smarter girl joins her class. This rival is played by the shoplifter herself, Winona Ryder.

Another Simpsons Clip Show: The family remembers all of the horrible heartbreaks they have had in their love lives.

Itchy & Scratchy Land: One of the best episodes of all time. The family goes to this Disney-espue theme park and hilarity ensues.

Sideshow Bob Roberts: My least favorite of the Sideshow Bob episodes but still hysterical.

Treehouse of Horror V: The ultimate Treehouse episode!!! With parodies of The Shining and The Sound of Thunder (which will be better than that cheesy movie coming out).

Bart’s Girlfriend: Bart falls in love with Rev. Lovejoy’s evil daughter played by Meryl Streep.

Lisa on Ice: One of the best Lisa/Bart episodes where they become rival hockey players. Homer Bad Man: Homer pulls off a gummy candy stuck to a woman's butt, and is accused of sexual harassment.

Grandpa vs. Sexual Inadequacy: A funny and touching episode about the relationship between Homer and his father.

Fear of Flying: We finally meet Marge’s father and learn how he plays into Marge’s fear of flying.

Homer the Great: Two words: “We do, we do!” Guest starring Captain Piccard himself. And Maggie Makes Three: Homer tells the story of the birth of Maggie.

Bart’s Comet: Bart discovers a comet and Springfield learns they’re all doomed.

Homie the Clown: Homer becomes Krusty, Krusty gets breast implants and we learn Fat Tony and his men have no aim.

Bart vs. Australia: Bart commits mail fraud on Australia and the family is forced to visit down under.

Homer vs. Patty and Selma: Homer borrows money from his evil sisters-in-law and Bart becomes a ballet dancer.

A Star is Burns: Jay Sherman (Jon Lovitz) visits Springfield to judge a film festival.

Lisa’s Wedding: Another of my favorite episodes as we visit the family in the future.

Two Dozen and One Greyhounds: A brilliant parody of many Disney films. Burns singing and dancing is always priceless.

The PTA Disbands: A school strike leads the locals to teach the kids.

Round Springfield: Lisa’s idol dies and she must find a way to honor him.

The Springfield Connection: Marge joins the crooked police force and Homer has one of his greatest lines ever, “Marge it’s too late for me. Sell the jeans and live like a queen!”

Lemon of Troy: When Shelbyville kids steal the Springfield lemon tree, Bart and his friends must get it back.

Who Shot Mr. Burns? Part One: Taking off the greatest cliffhanger of all time (Dallas), everyone in town wants to kill Burns and we’re left wondering who did it until season 7.

What’s extra:

COMMENTARY BY THE CAST AND GROENING ON EVERY EPISODE!!!

There are also some deleted scenes, commercials, and some featurettes.

There is only one downside to this DVD. They finally changed the packaging of the DVD’s and it is not for the better. The DVD’s are housed in a cheap, cheesy-looking plastic Homer’s head. It will crack or break eventually and getting the DVD’s out is a pain.

But hey, this season is great, the episodes are classic and hilarious and there are commentaries on every single episode.

Even with the horrible packaging:
